Copr Bay Footbridge – Swansea Central

Overview

The iconic Copr Bay scheme was a £135 million project. This 160ft long curved footbridge links Swansea City Centre with the 3,500-capacity new indoor arena and coastal park development including new homes, car parking as well as spaces for leisure and hospitality businesses.

As the bridge was installed in late November 2021 it truly transformed the look of Swansea City. It was carefully designed by architects ACME along with the artist Marc Rees. They gave it a bold design and striking façade, so it became a fabulous new landmark for the city as well as being part of a wider redevelopment of new jobs, opportunities, and overall future for Swansea City.

Process

Thortech were proudly chosen by SH Structures who were appointed by Swansea Council to work on this project. We installed 345m² of our very own products, Thorprime™ and Thorgrip HD™ to the steel deck footpath to give it the high quality and long-lasting finish that it needed. 270m² of the area was covered by Chinese Bauxite aggregate and 75m² of Emery aggregate was used for the length of the footpath, which gave the bridge a stunning golden finish as intended.

Outcome

Thortech completed the surfacing works within budget and on time. After completion, the footbridge was officially opened to the public in the early months of 2022 just in time for the first performances at the new arena.
