Stockport Interchange
Thortech International was awarded this incredible project by SH Structures to carry out works to Stockport Interchange in Greater Manchester, England. Stockport is a transport hub, which features a bus station, walking and cycling links, a rooftop park and several residential and commercial buildings. Stockport Council announced their plans to create Stockport’s new transport interchange in February 2024. Their vision was to have a new town centre park, high quality apartments and state-of-the-art transport facilities. They wanted improved links between the interchange and train station to transform the town centre. Our client wanted a high-quality, reliable anti-slip product to be applied to the interchange bridge and pathway outside the station. Thortech provided the perfect solution using their 3-part resin system ‘THORGRIP™’.
Process
Preparation works for the bridge started with enclosed shot blasting of the steel deck. Tape was then applied to the surrounding edges ready for the application of THORPRIME™. When the THORPRIME™ was set, our team mixed and applied THORGRIP™ to the one side of the bridge surface, as the other half of the bridge would feature a different colour. After the THORGRIP had gelled over, our team casted the 1-3MM aggregate until refusal. This was allowed to cure before any excess aggregate was removed. This process was then repeated for the other side of the bridge.
