MV Ben My Chree – Isle Of Man

In March 2023, Steam Packet Company Ltd chose Thortech International to complete repair works to ship decks measuring almost 2000m² on the MV Ben My Chree ship. This ship was launched in April 1998, it is undoubtably one of the most reliable vessels in the Steam Packet Company’s history and it can hold the capacity of 275 cars, which is up to 666 passengers. Our heavy-duty resin system THORGRIP ^TM was carefully chosen for the ship decks surface by The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company due to its unbeatable anti-skid properties and long service life. Thortech also used their sustainable product THORPRIME™ underlaying the THORGRIP™.

All existing anti-skid surfacing needed to be removed using a bobcat with a scraper attachment, followed by enclosed shot-blasting and handheld grinder work to prepare the steel deck for the new anti-skid system. Once the preparation works were complete, we used THORPRIME™ and THORGRIP™ to install the new anti-skid system to the deck and finished by coating the area with 1-3mm Emery aggregate.
