Stockport Interchange, Greater Manchester, England – SH Structures
Synopsis
Thortech International were pleased to be approached by SH Structures in Dec 2022 to carry out works to Stockport Interchange in Greater Manchester, England. Stockport is a transport hub, as well as a bus station, it includes walking and cycling links, a rooftop park, and a mixed use residential and commercial building. Stockport Council announced their plans to create Stockport’s new transport interchange in February 2024. Their plan is to have a new town centre park, high quality apartments, state-of-the-art transport facilities and improved links between the interchange and train station to transform the town centre. Our client wanted a high-quality, reliable anti-slip product to be applied to the Interchange bridge and pathway outside the station. Thortech provided the perfect solution using their 3-part resin system ‘THORGRIP™’.
Process
Preparation works for the bridge started with enclosed shot blasting of the steel deck using a STR Machine with a grinder attachment. After that, tape was applied to the surrounding edges ready for the application of THORPRIME™ using a roller. When the THORPRIME™ had set, our team mixed and applied THORGRIP™ to the one side of the bridge surface as the other half of the bridge was a different colour. They applied this using a serrated squeegee. After the THORGRIP had gelled over, our team casted the 1-3MM aggregate until refusal. This was allowed to cure before any excess aggregate was removed. This process was then repeated for the other side of the bridge.
Outcome
Thortech International are proud to have contributed to creating Stockport’s new transport interchange using their 3-part product THORGRIP™. Stockport interchange opened on March 17th 2024.
