Waking up to a snow covered, ice-encased car in the morning is a nightmare. The Highway Code states that ‘you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows’ So, how do we avoid getting into trouble whilst also ensuring our safety?
Good quality ice-scraper
This is an absolute must. Credit card or CD cases are not acceptable substitutes, as they can scratch the glass.
Turn the engine on
Turn up the heating with the blowers targeted at the windows. It’ll make your vehicle toasty warm too!
De-Icing products
Always keep a can in your car to help melt the ice before you use the scraper. You also need a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water in the cooling system for winter.
